Shipping Finance/Building/Sale & Purchase Associate – London

Our international law firm client’s non-contentious Shipping and Projects team in London focuses on non-contentious marine and projects work. Their clients include owners, operators and stakeholders, and they have earned a stellar reputation over many years for delivering first class, commercial advice across a broad range of commercial shipping and marine projects, covering the full lifecycle of a ship, from shipbuilding contracts, to financing, ship recycling and everything in between.

Clients of the team include some of the world’s largest companies and they advise on transactions relating to all types of vessels and the full suite of related agreements, including industry standard forms, bespoke contracts, and various forms of vessel financing, including traditional loans, sale and leaseback and JOLCO structures.

An opportunity in the team has arisen for a mid-level (probably 3-5 PQE) Associate. To be considered for this role, ideally you will have experience in most of:

  • Shipbuilding contracts
  • Ship sale and purchase (ideally being able to manage the transaction with some supervision)
  • Ship financing
  • Bareboat charters
  • Long term time charter parties

You’ll probably have gained 3-5 years’ post-qualification experience in transactional shipping matters, have a strong academic background, and a genuine interest in the maritime sector. You’ll be a strong communicator with good attention to detail, and in your career to date you will have gained strong technical skills, along with the confidence to manage and prioritise a full and varied caseload. Ideally you will also have a comfortable working knowledge of BIMCO industry standard contracts.
