They are looking for a Senior Applications Engineer who is dynamic, passionate and committed to growth within the firm, and have a desire to acquire knowledge of new technology. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management and support of various enterprise solutions. The firm has put together a new Applications team, and this role presents an opportunity to help lead the introduction of various new technologies at the firm.
You will also be the main point of contact for the business around technical issues and support and will partner with the firm’s customers in ensuring the health and consistent growth of the systems they are responsible for.
The successful candidate should also have excellent communication skills, management skills and customer service skills to work independently and deliver new solutions to the business.
Purpose of the role:
The Senior Applications Engineer is responsible for managing and supporting various enterprise solutions in close collaboration with other IT teams. This individual is the main point of contact for the business around technical issues and support and will partner with their customers in ensuring the health and consistent growth of the systems they are responsible for.
This role is part of the newly formed Applications team, so this is an opportunity to help lead the introduction of various new technologies at the firm. Strong customer service skills are required, as well as the ability to work independently and efficiently.
Key responsibilities:
- Supporting and driving forward enterprise applications and platforms such as Compulaw, Docusign, IntApp Conflicts/Intake/Terms, Litera Desktop Suite, Research Monitor, ViDesktop, and Workday across departments business development, conflicts, docketing, IT, library, and talent management;
- Working on application implementations, upgrades, enhancements, troubleshooting, and roadmaps;
- Providing direct oversight and management of various solutions as assigned;
- Acting as subject matter expert for those systems and providing technical support as needed. Ensuring the health and stability of all solutions owned;
- Monitoring, tracking, and reporting on performance and capacity. Responsible for capacity planning;
- Under direction of the Senior Manager, Enterprise Applications, engaging with the business as needed in supporting the above;
- Working with the relevant IT teams in developing and delivering enhancements and new capabilities. Drive and manage those efforts;
- Delivering recommendations to the business and IT leadership based on an understanding of the platform, roadmap and related business drivers;
- Maintaining current and accurate architecture and supporting documentation for use by both engineering teams and support staff;
- Adhering to and participating in the Firm’s Change Management process;
- Providing regular updates and reporting to both the Senior Manager, Enterprise Applications and Director of Applications;
- Collaborating in the creation and use of training and QA materials and activities for applications supported;
- Providing coaching to junior analysts on trouble shooting and best practices;
- Knowing common legal enterprise solutions. Advanced knowledge of enterprise applications on premise, in the cloud, and hybrid;
- Working with product vendors and procurement;
- Possessing strong communication, organization, negotiation, critical thinking, and leadership skills as well as exceptional customer service and collaboration abilities;
- Working with QA on test scripts, procedures, and remediation;
- Working overtime and after-hours as required; and
- Participating in on call rotation for after-hours break/fix support.
Core competencies:
- Advanced knowledge of multi-tier architecture including servers, databases, proxies, load balancing, trust/access rights, certificates, and integrations;
- Advanced knowledge of Windows Server including IIS, services, scheduled tasks, logging, and configurations;
- Intermediate knowledge of system integrations including APIs, web services, FTP, and database to database;
- Basic ability to manage monitoring, backups, HA, BC, DR, patching, and admin tools;
- Basic ability to work with desktop and mobile applications for their installation and configurations;
- Basic ability to work with SQL Server, SQL development/queries, and reporting tools;
- Basic ability to work with project management on plans, tasks, and resource management and tools such as Confluence and JIRA;
- Familiarity with scripting languages such as PowerShell;
- Familiarity with security best practices and procedures;
- Familiarity with data governance best practices and procedures; and
- Familiarity with related IT departments such as infrastructure, desktop, service desk, development, operations, and telecommunications.
Skills required:
- Bachelor’s degree (strongly preferred) or equivalent work experience;
- Working knowledge of legal technology solutions preferred;
- 7 years of information technology experience;
- 5 years’ experience working with and supporting enterprise platforms;
- 3 years’ executive level engagement and customer service; and
- 3 years of experience in a professional services or legal environment preferred.
