Labor & Employment Associate – New Jersey

Our client, a fantastic midmarket law firm with international offices, is looking to expand its growing Labor & Employment team in New Jersey. Ideal candidates will have at least 3 years’ experience in a strong labor & employment team.

Ideal candidates will have experience representing employers on both a class and individual basis with respect to wage and hour compliance, employment discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, leaves of absence, employee accommodations, personnel policies, and employment agreements, along with other labor and employment issues.  Wage & hour class action and PAGA experience is required.

The firm’s Labor & Employment team provides national and international corporations with strategic legal advice on all matters concerning the employment relationship. With almost 200 practitioners around the globe, they offer national and international organizations strategic and practical legal services that are focused on maximizing human resource potential. The team consists of trial lawyers and regularly try cases to verdict. The trial team is regularly called upon to handle complex, bet-the-company cases and has taken three cases to the U.S. Supreme Court in the past 10 years. Their experience in class and collective litigation is wide-ranging, having handled over 100 such cases in the last three years alone. Their experience with the courts, counsel, and judges internationally gives clients access to critical information utilized to aggressively and efficiently respond to and defend such matters. This exceptional group has in-depth experience structuring corporate transactions aimed at maximizing managerial flexibility and labor efficiency, negotiating collective bargaining agreements, trying labor arbitrations throughout the country, and assisting employers to lead and manage in ways that best fit their cultures.

There are no official target hours at this firm, however most offices expect around 2000 hours to be eligible for the bonuses, which includes 100 pro bono, 50 DE&I and 25 community service hours (so 1825 billable hours). This is negotiable and some associates have been able to include far above 100 pro bono hours in their targets, and everyone is encouraged to do as much pro bono as they would like to.

This firm has also ranked very highly for its DE&I initiatives, particularly with regard to the percentage of female Partners in the firm. The culture can be described as small, tight-knit, nerdy and fun, with things like board game nights and themed socials being on the regular.
