Finance Senior Applications Engineer – Los Angeles (Hybrid)

A leading international law firm are looking to expand their new applications team with a finance senior applications engineer. This firm provides innovative legal solutions to many of the world’s top financial institutions and Fortune Global 500 companies. They have a strong global presence and reach because of their extensive capabilities to provide a personalized service for all their clients’ needs.

They are hiring for a senior Finance Senior Applications Engineer who is dynamic, passionate and committed to professional growth and knowledge of new technology. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management and support of various enterprise solutions in close collaboration with other IT teams. As they will be a part of a new Applications team, this role presents an opportunity to help lead the introduction of various new technologies at the firm.

They will also be the main point of contact for the business around technical issues and support, and will partner with the firm’s customers in ensuring the health and consistent growth of the systems they are responsible for.

The successful candidate should also have excellent communication skills, management skills and customer service skills to work independently and deliver new solutions to the business.

Key responsibilities:

  • Supporting and driving forward enterprise applications and platforms such as BigSquare, Carpe Diem, Chrome River, e-Billing Hub, Elite 3E including Design Gallery, IntApp Time, Proforma, and Star Collect for the finance department;
  • Working on application implementations, upgrades, enhancements, troubleshooting, and roadmaps;
  • Developing in 3E IDE and Design Gallery;
  • Conducting development activities including analysis and solution design along with hands-on development across application layers;
  • Providing direct oversight and management of various solutions as assigned;
  • Acting as subject matter expert for those systems and provide technical support as needed. Ensure the health and stability of all solutions owned;
  • Monitoring, tracking, and reporting on performance and capacity. Responsible for capacity planning;
  • Under direction of the Senior Manager, Enterprise Applications, engaging with the business as needed in supporting the above;
  • Working with the relevant IT teams in developing and delivering enhancements and new capabilities. Driving and managing those efforts;
  • Delivering recommendations to the business and IT leadership based on an understanding of the platform, roadmap and related business drivers;
  • Maintaining current and accurate architecture and supporting documentation for use by both engineering teams and support staff;
  • Adhering to and participating in the Firm’s Change Management process;
  • Providing regular updates and reporting to both the Senior Manager, Enterprise Applications and Director of Applications;
  • Collaborating in the creation and use of training and QA materials and activities for applications supported;
  • Providing coaching to junior analysts on trouble shooting and best practices;
  • Knowing common legal enterprise solutions. Advanced knowledge of enterprise applications on premise, in the cloud, and hybrid;
  • Working with product vendors and procurement;
  • Possessing strong communication, organization, negotiation, critical thinking, and leadership skills as well as exceptional customer service and collaboration abilities;
  • Working with QA on test scripts, procedures, and remediation;
  • Working overtime and after-hours as required; and
  • Participating in on call rotation for after-hours break/fix support.

Core competencies:

  • Advanced 3E or Aderant support;
  • Advanced knowledge of Thomson Reuters Elite 3E accounting/billing systems;
  • Advanced knowledge of multi-tier architecture including servers, databases, proxies, load balancing, trust/access rights, certificates, and integrations;
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows Server including IIS, services, scheduled tasks, logging, and configurations;
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL Server, SQL development/queries, and reporting tools especially Power BI;
  • Intermediate knowledge of system integrations including APIs, web services, FTP, and database to database;
  • Basic ability to manage monitoring, backups, HA, BC, DR, patching, and admin tools;
  • Basic ability to work with desktop and mobile applications for their installation and configurations;
  • Basic ability to work with project management on plans, tasks, and resource management and tools such as Confluence and JIRA;
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as PowerShell;
  • Familiarity with security best practices and procedures;
  • Familiarity with data governance best practices and procedures;
  • Familiarity with related IT departments such as infrastructure, desktop, service desk, development, operations, and telecommunications; and
  • Familiarity with IntApp Integrate.

Skills required: 

  • This role requires a Bachelor’s degree (strongly preferred) or equivalent work experience;
  • At least 7 years’of information technology experience;
  • At least 5 years’ experience working with and supporting enterprise platforms;
  • At least 5 years’ experience working with Thomson Reuters Elite 3E;
  • At least 3 years’ executive level engagement and customer service;
  • At least 3 years of experience in a professional services or legal environment preferred;
  • At least 3 years’ experience working on data analytics and reporting efforts; and experience with PowerBI.
