Jameson Legal Event – Mental Wellbeing and Emotional Intelligence – Beyond the Buzzword!

The Panel:

Marylin Heward-Mills – Solicitor/Psychotherapeutic Counsellor/Novelist

Marilyn qualified as a solicitor in the UK in 1996 and prior to this was called to the New York State Bar in 1994. Marilyn worked with US law firms as a corporate and employment lawyer. She now consults on employment and corporate matters on a contracting basis. In addition to this, Marilyn is also an accomplished author. She published her first novel, Cloth Girl, in 2006 which was shortlisted for the Costa First Novel award the following year.  In 2010, Marilyn published her second novel, The Association of Foreign Spouses, before returning to her career as a lawyer. She is also a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor, working with students at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, and has started a private counselling practice in central London.  Marilyn is passionate about helping individuals work through challenging life issues that hinder a full enjoyment of life.

Catherine De La Poer – Business Coach

Catherine is a business coach with 20+ years’ experience in media and recruitment. Emotional intelligence (EQ) forms the centrepiece of her coaching approach. Improving emotional fitness, building resilience and agility in teams and individuals, are key outcomes of her work with clients. She completed her postgraduate certificate in business and personal coaching in 2015-16 (Barefoot Coaching) and is accredited to the International Coach Federation, she is certified in EQ-i 2,0/ EQ 360 & Tilt365. She is also a qualified Team Coach. Catherine launched Halcyon Coaching in 2017.

Romny Gray – General Counsel MBNL

Romny is an Executive of the award-winning telecoms business MBNL, which operates as a joint venture between EE and 3. She leads on all legal, governance and compliance issues, advises the Board and manages a team of talented lawyers and governance professionals. Mental health and wellbeing is a topic that Romny is personally interested in and is a focus for MBNL as part of their corporate and personal objectives.

Russ Martin – Ashurst Practice Resource Manager and Co-Lead on Mental Health Awareness

Russ is passionate about mental health and is someone who has previously struggled with the lack of access to this knowledge in the workplace. He joined Ashurst wanting to make a difference in this space.  Russ has helped bring mental health awareness to the forefront at Ashurst. He has also recently trained as a mental health first aid Instructor and is rolling out mental health awareness and mental health first aid courses throughout Ashurst.

Topics to be discussed with panel members and the audience will be:

  • challenges faced on this topic;
  • resistance faced to date;
  • resistance that you may be faced with;
  • what, if anything, has been implemented to date;
  • what, is the general perspective on the ground; and
  • the balance between hiring the workaholic and the subsequent fall-out.

The event will be structured in a way that is educational, informative and thought provoking, encouraging panel and audience interaction.
